ISCC CORSIA

The ISCC CORSIA certification is designed to support the aviation industry in meeting the carbon offsetting and emission reduction requirements set by the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA), established by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). The program focuses on providing a framework for verifying and certifying CORSIA-eligible fuels, ensuring that they contribute to the goals of carbon-neutral growth and long-term emissions reduction.

    Fight against climate change

In the fight against climate change, the need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions has been recognised by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO). The ICAO Member States have set ambitious targets to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions in aviation, for which the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) scheme has been setup. Since February 2021, Control Union is the first recognised certification body for ISCC CORSIA.

CORSIA eligible fuels must meet the following criteria

With the ISCC CORSIA scheme, fuel producers and companies along the supply chain can now demonstrate compliance with the CORSIA sustainability criteria.

A reduced net carbon emission of at least 10% compared to the baseline life cycle emissions

Eligible fuels should not be made from biomass obtained from land with high carbon stock and may not be grown on land with land use change of such land on or after 01 January 2008

    Fuels

ISCC CORSIA helps airlines and fuel producers meet ICAO’s stringent emission reduction targets, offering a verified and globally accepted certification to enhance their sustainability credentials in the aviation industry.

    How you benefit

Enables airlines to comply with CORSIA’s carbon-neutral growth targets from 2020 and contribute to the long-term goal of reducing net aviation carbon emissions by 50% by 2050.

Aligns with ICAO’s internationally established standards and practices, ensuring certification credibility and acceptance by global stakeholders.

Addresses CO2 offsetting requirements for international flights and the calculation of emissions reductions using CORSIA-eligible fuels.

Offers ISCC CORSIA and ISCC CORSIA PLUS certifications providing flexibility to meet diverse industry needs.

Facilitates participation in the global aviation market, as the scheme covers around 80% of international aviation with 104 participating states.

Promotes the use of sustainable aviation fuels and offsets, helping to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions from air transportation.

Ensures robust third-party verification of compliance with ICAO standards, boosting stakeholder confidence in sustainability claims.
